Success story of USHABATI MALLICK
Mrs. Ushabati Mallick, a dedicated housewife of Keshapali Grampanchayat of
Jujomura block Sambalpur district, has emerged as a successful fisheries farmer under the
scheme (MMKY- Assistance to Network of Fish seed Growers under Early Breeding
Programme) 2025-26. With support from the government subsidy program the project cost
of the scheme was 1 lakh with 60% govt subsidy and availed Rs.60000. She purchased 30 lakhs
fish spawn and started nurturing them into fingerling size for market sale. She Started this
since FY 2025-26.
Through her hard work and proper management, she has already sold around 1 lakh
fingerlings in the market. In addition to this, she has also earned Rs. 80,000 by selling market size fish in her local area, contributing significantly to her family income.
Coming from a traditional fish farming family, Mrs. Mallick drew inspiration from her
father-in-law, who was once actively engaged in fisheries but is now unable to continue due
to old age. Determined to carry forward the family legacy, she has taken the responsibility of
sustaining and growing their traditional occupation.
Her journey reflects how government support, combined with determination and
dedication, can empower rural women to become self-reliant and successful farmer in
fisheries.
